Apartments
in Spain are ideal for those on a short holiday
or visit. They are readily available and much
cheaper than renting or buying a villa. They
are ideally located near airports in all major
cities and so are the most convenient accommodation
for visitors. Most apartments are equipped with
satellite TV, video player, a stereo. Furniture
for the entire apartment, beds for the bedroom,
a large dining table and chairs for the dining
room, some even have a roll out sofa-cum-beds
in the living room. The kitchen too usually
has microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster,
sandwich maker and juicer. Apartment buildings
must be chosen carefully taking into consideration
the need for car parking, community expenses,
choice of neighbours etc. Buying an apartment
in Spain involves a lot of legal formalities
and a good lawyer must be retained for the same.
Considering all the paperwork involved as well
as additional expenses, it is common practice
to add 10% to the declared purchase price of
the property to cover this. Apartments may be
purchased from a previous owner (resale) but
these will have less resale value as an investment.
But their advantage is that they are available
for immediate possession, some even completely
furnished with all utilities included (electricity,
gas, running water).
It is common practice among holidaymakers to
make arrangements for these apartments with
their travel agents back home. If you have not
done so, then it is advisable to stay at a hotel
while looking out for an ideal apartment to
rent or buy. This is because most of the apartments
in ideal locations (near the beach or golf course)
may be booked and an unscrupulous apartment
manager may take advantage of your indisposition
by overcharging you. Apartments are ideal for
large families who want to stay close together.
Many extra services may be provided by the apartment
manager to improve the quality of your stay
and for your convenience, like dining arrangements,
transport in and around the city and guided
tours, all of which have to be arranged with
the building management, or in the form of travel
packages arranged by the travel agent back home.
